Congratulations to Payne for his great achievement!
Salisbury, NC (8/8/10) – Payne McLeod of Reidsville holed a 7-foot birdie on 18 to win the 1st North Carolina Amateur Championship 1-up over reigning North Carolina Amateur (stroke play) champion Ryan Heisey of Greensboro. The event was contested at the Country Club of Salisbury. The finalists combined for a total of 13 birdies and an eagle in their 18-hole match.
“This was the best round I have played all week,” McLeod said. “I was 7-under par for the day.”
“I would like to thank Robert Linville and Precision Golf School, my swing teacher of seven years, and Pat Foy Brady, who has mentored me,” said the 2009 N.C. Junior runner-up. “They have been really helpful over the years.
“This week I just decided to come here on my own without any parents or friends,” McLeod said. “My mom stresses out more than I do, so we all felt it was best to just try it alone.”
