Conover, NC – Robert Linville, PGA, earned his first CPGA senior title of 2011 in impressive fashion with two bogey-free rounds on Rock Barn Golf & Spa’s Robert Trent Jones Jr. course.
Linville, the Director of Instruction at Robert Linville’s Precision Golf School in Greensboro, NC, opened the two-day event with a tournament-low round of 34-31=65 (-7) featuring 7 birdies. Amateur John Walters of charlotte, NC sat 3 strokes behind at 68 (-4).
Linville didn’t convert as many birdie opportunities in his second round; but, he made a string of 14 pars in a row to card a 34-36=70 (-2). His total of 135 (-9) gave Linville a 6-stroke victory over Walters who finished at 141 (-3).
This has been a very good week for Linville. At the 2011 Southworth Senior PGA Professional National Championship contested in Virginia, he finished tied for 17th. By finishing in the top 35, Linville qualified to compete in the 2012 Senior PGA Championship next May in Michigan. David Thore, PGA, who finished third here at Rock Barn also qualified for the Senior PGA Championship.
