With summer golf right around the corner, we are gearing up for camp season. When I first moved to Greensboro and envisioned a year round junior program we needed to offer summer golf camps. That first summer, in 1999, we had a total of 4 kids in the two camps we offered! In our 17th year of summer camp we will offer 13 camps over the summer and have close to 200 campers who will come through the program.
There are three types of camps that we offer through the Precision Developmental Junior Program. Each of them are specifically designed and tailored for the ages and skills of the juniors. The camps are offered in either full or half day programs with late pick-up available most weeks.
The Skills Camps at Bur-Mil are three days in length and offer young developing juniors ages 5-13 the opportunity to learn all aspects of the game. These camps provide time on the course, full swing, short game, basic rules and etiquette. The Skills camps are a great opportunity for many juniors who are seeing golf for the first time as well as beginners developing players. These camps have a great deal of focus on the basics of the game. The Par 3 course offers a setting for the kids to learn how to play the game as the setup is ideal for them. Also for many working families there is a late pick up option available at camps offered at Bur Mil.
The Premier Camps are offered at Bryan Park. They are planned as five day camps and also offer a three day option. The targeted age range for these camps is age 7- 17. These camps move at a little quicker pace and designed for juniors with some experience. In the mornings The Precision Golf School Learning Center’s practice area plays host to the juniors. During the Premier Camps, similar to the Skills Camps, the juniors focus on full swing, short game, basic rules and etiquette during the morning hours. After the break for lunch, these juniors take on 9 holes at Bryan Park Golf Course. Having this great opportunity gives the juniors the ability to try out what they worked on in the morning and get some on course instruction. The instructors get feedback from the juniors based on previous days results as to what personal daily focuses need to be.
The Advanced Camps are utilized by our developed middle school and high school players who are on track to play collegiate golf. These intense two day camps will be offered through the summer. The dates, yet to be determined, will revolve around the busy tournament schedules these kids will play. The camps will incorporate course management, sport psychology, fitness and other high end training techniques to further develop the kid’s games.
Our instructors have over 26 years of experience teaching camps. We are excited to offer the camps and look forward to enhancing the juniors who are already involved with the Precision Junior Development Program.
