EDEN – Behind a 5-under par 66 from sophomore Robert Register, Williams claimed the top spot in Monday’s Class 3-A Mideast Regional Championship at Meadow Greens Country Club.

The Bulldogs earned a team total of 292, easily outpacing Eden Morehead’s 299.

The title was the eighth regional crown forWilliams and the Bulldogs’ first since 2005.

Williams teammates Luke Haithcock and Al Lunsford carded 74.

“We’re playing well,” Williams coach Tommy Cole said. “It’s a good time to be playing well.”

Southern Lee joined Williams and Eden Morehead in qualifying for next week’s Class 3-A championships at Keith Hills Country Club.

Robert Hoadley of Union Pines fired a 69 to earn an individual bid. Rockingham County’s Dallas Page (73) and Bartlett Yancey’s John Somers (73) also earned spots.
