Kirk sets the field ablaze with final round 67!
Greensboro, NC— The final round of the Precision Junior Girls Championship finished up yesterday at Bryan Park GC. The Championship marked the third and final major of the Peggy Kirk Bell Girls Golf Tour determining official 2010 Order of Merit rankings and PKB Fall Invitational honors.
The day encompassed some fantastic golf as Katie Kirk of Davidson, NC posted the lowest single round score in tournament history with a 5 under 67 on the Champions Course (host course of the 2010 Public Links Championship).
The heavy rough and over 6000 yards of real estate posed little stopping power to a determined Kirk on Friday afternoon. After coming off a disappointing first round 78 on the Players course, Kirk turned the ship around and threw up the sail catching a gust of birdies on round two with little rough water.
The performance catapulted her into the winners spot for the Championship and moved her from sixth to first on the 2010 Order of Merit Rankings!
Following Kirk were Casey Ward of Chapel Hill, NC and Andrea Robbins of Liberty, NC at 148, Karishma Thiagaraj of Rockville, MD at 152 and Lyberty Anderson of Chesterfield, VA at 153.
The Futures division featured a hotly contested final nine holes as first round leader, Isabella Rusher of Salisbury, NC, fell back in the field after posting 70 on day one.
Capitalizing on the opportunity, Nicolette Donovan of Cary, NC carried her consistent play with her throughout the day and posted a solid 78 earning her the three shot victory.
Following Donovan were Emily Stinson of Charlotte, NC and Isabella Rusher of Salisbury, NC at 156, Sarah Spicer of Bahama, NC at 162 and Jessica Spicer of Bahama, NC at 164.
The tours next stop with be at Huntinghawk GC in Richmond, Virginia in September.
